Simon Gluckman- Founder

Top African Safari Travel Specialist

Born in South Africa and raised in the States, my passion for Africa developed as a child, spending summers with relatives touring South Africa’s national parks and the famed Garden Route. After college, I took a 6-month, overland trip through five Southern African countries, inspiring my career to help others experience this mystic continent.

In nearly 20 years of organizing custom safaris, I’ve made multiple visits to nearly every country in East and Southern Africa, as well as Egypt, Ethiopia and numerous Indian Ocean islands.

I’ve been on countless game drives throughout Africa, visited villages from Cairo to Cape Town, tracked rhinos in Zimbabwe, fly-fished for Tiger fish on the Zambezi, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Kenya, dived with Great White sharks, and trekked gorillas and chimpanzees. Yet I am always yearning for my next visit to Africa.

Throughout those adventures, I’ve learned not only the best locations within each country but also, just as important, when to go. Wildlife viewing changes dramatically throughout the course of a year, so selecting the right property for the time of year traveling is key in creating a once-in-a-lifetime safari.

Andre Steynberg- VP of Safari Adventures & Marketing

My early life was spent bare foot and running through the African wild. Born and raised in Zimbabwe,it was inevitable that my career path would begin as a safari guide where I ultimately earned the prestigious “Zimbabwe Guide of the Year.” Throughout these years I had countless experiences leading small personalized trips throughout Zimbabwe in a wide variety of environments before spreading my wings into other safari countries. After 10 years of guiding, establishing, building, and running safari camps I moved to the US where I completed my business degree and realized ultimately how much Africa ran in my blood and that I missed the “beat of the Africa!” This guided me right back into planning safaris and re-igniting my passion for Africa, where it has allowed me to live in the USA and travel annually to the continent for my African fix!

Through a lifetime spent living and working in Africa I have traveled through all the major safari countries and their parks, including all the major, minor and remote areas. And, I have built up a vast and incredible network of relationships and knowledge of Africa that I am able to leverage and use to enhance every African trip that I plan.

Operations Manager

Growing up in New England I was always outside. From an early age I was fascinated with animals big and small. I spent my days hiking, camping, horseback riding, kayaking, biking and volunteering at animal shelters. I followed my lifelong dream of working with animals by enrolling at the University of Vermont to study zoology.

Enrolling at the University of Vermont opened many doors, including the chance to study abroad in South Africa. On my 3 week trip I worked with the Community Led Animal Welfare project in Johannesburg. I was able to assist the veterinary clinic with a routine visit to a township in which we were able to provide vaccines to pets, treatment for common ailments, and spay/neuter services at the clinic.

During my trip I went to the Kruger National Park and attended lectures on anti-poaching and wildlife health. I could not get enough of seeing these magnificent animals in the wild. I have been absolutely hooked and enamored with Africa ever since. My education and love for animals led me to get my first job out of school as a veterinary nurse. I was a veterinary nurse for 3 years and I have spent time traveling to different countries, but I could not wait to go back to Africa.

Since joining Intrepid Expeditions in September 2016 I have visited South Africa, Botswana and the next stop is Tanzania! I’m proud to work for a company that only associates itself with reputable organizations that take animal welfare and the environment into account first and foremost. I am very passionate about animal conservation and community welfare, and every day we are able to make a difference through our continued support in local communities. We send people on unforgettable journeys to not only see African wildlife but authentic cultures, and I honestly love what I do.
