Thuto Moutloatsi

From a young age Thuto had the privilege of enjoying the superb wildlife areas of Botswana as his father was involved in tourism and conservation. This led to a childhood love of the secrets of the wild.

Thuto started to hone his natural bush skills and passion for the wilderness through hiking, walking trails and horse riding while he was at school in the foothills of the majestic Drakensberg Mountains in neighbouring South Africa.

After school, he did a travel and tourism course, undertook volunteer work at Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve and then returned to Botswana, where he began his guiding career at Khama Rhino Sanctuary. He soon moved to Wilderness Safaris to guide within the Linyanti Concession where he remained for four years.

With an insatiable interest in the different ecosystems of Botswana, Thuto joined the growing Explorations team in 2006. This enhanced his natural sense for guiding and he developed his personable rapport with guests. He quickly became an integral member of the team and is now frequently requested by both tour operators and repeat guests from all over the world.

In 2014, Thuto was voted by America’s OUTSIDE magazine as one “seven best adventure guides on the planet” in its annual Travel Awards. He enjoys all aspects of the bush from walking to astronomy. He is a keen photographer and conducts photographic trips throughout southern Africa sharing his knowledge and passion for photography with his guests. He ensures his guests will get the best vantage point for photography and freely shares information on the more technical aspects of photography. Thuto loves cooking meals in the bush, from “breakfast-on-a-spade” to dinner under the African sky.

Thuto lives life to its fullest and his larger than life personality will ensure that a safari with him never has a dull moment. Going on safari with Thuto will leave your mind reeling from the experience. Chances are good that you will return home having acquired a great deal of knowledge of the wild as well as a new friend.
